Just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean that all our problems go away. On the contrary, many of our health issues are exacerbated by stress and fatigue. Joint pain, muscle pain, and muscle strain can all flare up during this busy time of year. At least here in Arizona we don’t have to worry about the physical strain involved in shoveling snow! Here are some tips for staying healthy during this time of year:

  1.  Drink plenty of water. With all the parties and concerts and gatherings you will attend, there will certainly be more fun things to drink there than water. But make sure you are still drinking plenty of water. The general recommendation is half your body weight in ounces (i.e. 200 lbs = 100 oz of water).
  2. Get enough rest. That is hard to do when there is so much more demand put on your time during the holidays. However, you will enjoy everything more if you are well rested and not sick. The recommendation for adults is 7.5 to 9 hours per night to function at your best.
  3. Wash your hands. And not just after visiting the restroom. Germs are everywhere – on your phone, on door handles, on shopping carts. Be aware and try not to rub your eyes, nose, or mouth as these are the easiest entry points for germs.

Following this good advice will help prevent you from getting sick and missing out on all the fun. But even with all these tips, you may still find you need an adjustment or a massage to keep you going. We’ll be here.
