This year at AZ Chiropractic, we want to help you achieve total body wellness. We explored the idea of total body wellness in our last newsletter – total body meaning mental, physical and emotional. Each of these components is an essential part to our overall health. But let’s begin by focusing on our mental health.

The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

So how do you attain ‘positive psychology’? Good mental health? What is the “right” perspective?  How about “Bloom where you’re planted.”  No matter what situation you find yourself in, determine to be happy. Determine to succeed.  There are several examples in history of people who chose to be happy in difficult circumstances: Corrie Tin Boom, Louie Zamporini, and Immaculee Ilibagiza. When you are generally optimistic, life seems easier. Problems don’t seem insurmountable. According to this article posted on the Mayo Clinic’s website, there are several health benefits to positive thinking! Some of these benefits include:

  •     Increased life span
  •     Lower rates of depression
  •     Lower levels of distress
  •     Greater resistance to the common cold
  •     Better psychological and physical well-being
  •     Reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease
  •     Better coping skills during hardships and times of stress

When you look at the pros for positive thinking, you begin to see what an impact they can have on your mental health and why it is so important to attain mental health. So practice positive thinking. Start today. Be a glass half-full kind of person. Keep a smile on your face and visit us at AZ Chiropractic for total body wellness.
